Welcome back to Consequence’s Mixtapes, a new video series that examines artists’ tastes through the lens of absurd situations. For the latest edition, Anna Shoemaker picks the perfect tunes for bad family barbecues, bad hair days, and more.

As heard on her recent EP, Hey Anna, Anna Shoemaker has a wide palate when it comes to the music she loves. From low-fi indie rock to exhilarating pop, she’s here for it all. So, we asked her to use her varied tastes to soundtrack a series of increasingly wacky situations — because how better to get to know someone than a playlist, right?

Whether it’s the theme for an uncle who’s as bad at marriage as he is on the grill, the perfect tune for letting the wind blow through your hair while cruising in a convertible, or the auditory rebound from sleeping through your alarm (“That’s me every single day,” she admits), Shoemaker has you covered.

“What do I even listen to?” she wonders aloud when tasked with picking a track for a disastrous, stoned trip to Walmart. “Alex G! I feel like I’m always just listening to Alex G.” Us too, Anna, us too.

Just last week (on October 11th), Shoemaker released a brand new single, “Not Coming Back.” She’s also in the midst of a run of dates with Aidan Bissett, and you can grab tickets to one of her upcoming shows here.
