Kim Gordon has announced her second solo studio album. The Collective is out on March 8th via Matador, and the Sonic Youth musician is celebrating the news with the lead single “BYE BYE” as well as a batch of 2024 tour dates.

Gordon’s follow-up to her 2019 debut No Home Record brought her back to producer Justin Raisen (Lil Yachty, Charli XCX, Yves Tumor), whose knack for dub and hip-hop leaning beats intermingle with Gordon’s best-in-class rock songwriting.

Those colliding genres are especially evident on the rumbling, ear-splitting “BYE BYE.” You would probably never guess it was a Kim Gordon song until her droning voice comes in, rattling off what sounds like her to-do list before a big trip: “Buy a suitcase, take pants to the cleaner,” she raps. “Call the vet, call the groomer/ Call the dog sitter.”

Before long, roaring guitars come in, almost as if signaling anxiety about travel — or something more sinister. Better yet, the music video for “BYE BYE” stars Gordon’s daughter, Coco Gordon Moore, and the apple certainly doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Gordon’s tour dates begin on March 21st in Burlington, Vermont. She’ll make stops in D.C., New York, Los Angeles, Ventura, and San Fransisco throughout the rest of the month. Pre-sale for the LA and San Fransisco shows begins Wednesday, January 17th at 10:00 a.m. PT over at Ticketmaster (use code SPOTLIGHT), while tickets to the rest of the dates will be available here.

Pre-orders for The Collective are ongoing. Below, see the album’s artwork and tracklist, as well as Gordon’s tour dates and the “BYE BYE” video.

Last year, Gordon’s other band Body/Head surprise-released the EP Come On. In May 2022, she linked with Bikini Kill guitarist Erica Dawn Lyle and The Raincoats drummer Vice Cooler for the charity single “Debt Collector,” a track from the compilation LAND TRUST: Benefit for North East Farmers of Color.
